Who We Are

Who We Are

“Success is finding satisfaction in giving a little more than you take.”

-Christopher Reeve

Welcome to New York Families for Autistic Children!

Since 1998 we have been motivating and inspiring individuals diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder — and their families — to live life to the fullest.

Providing support, education, recreational and socialization programs is just a small facet of what we do. Working together with professionals in the field, amazing and dedicated parents, grandparents and other family members, we innovate. We design cutting-edge programs that challenge our individuals to learn, develop and grow to maximize their full potential.

I use the word “potential” frequently. The dictionary defines “potential” as “latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.” This is something to which we all aspire — we recruit people with potential to work for us; we develop associations based on their potential; and finally, we can support causes and organizations that have a true potential for positive results.

This, I believe, is exactly who we are. When we first started we had an idea: “let’s help kids and families with developmental disabilities.” Five families, each touched by autism, banded together and off we went.

That was 1998. Today we have over 150 employees and provide over 20 different programs to the families we serve. Each year we increase our numbers. In 2013 we provided nearly 30,000 unique visits to our families. Whether it is in their home, in their school, in their community, or at one of our facilities, NYFAC will always be there.
