Recreational Programs
All NYFAC recreational programs include full family participation. Children with autism are paired or play with their typically developing peers, and are supervised by parents and guided by professionals in that recreational area.
All NYFAC recreational programming,except swimming, are fully integrated community-based programs. Parents, typically developing siblings, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews are welcome. Everyone is encouraged to participate in all aspects of our recreational programs. These programs are not designed to be respite. They require family participation.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE NYFAC DOES NOT RUN ALL THESE PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME. MOST ARE SEASONAL. PLEASE WATCH THE WEBSITE FOR DETAILS.

Bowling
This program is offered in Queens at Cozy Bowl, 98-18 Rockaway Blvd, Howard Beach. This program is great for teaching social interaction. Spring 2012 session 2 is $50/child for 10 weeks. Session includes 2 games of bowling and shoes. This program is held every Saturday, promptly at 1 pm. 

 

The Spring 2012 session will be held for 10 weeks on the following dates:

April 21, 28

May 5, 12

 

The 2nd Annual NYFAC Bowl-A-Thon will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2012. Details to follow.

Swimming

NYFAC is proud to announce, a partnership with USA Pools and the brand new Aquatic Center at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, ’LEARN TO SWIM’ program.
*** Registration is LIMITED****
This is one of the “most requested” programs and in response we have designed a program meant to meet the needs of our members! This is a 20-week session held every Friday from 7-8 p.m. Locker rooms open at 6:30 p.m.
The program will be held:

NYFAC’s basic rules for the program:
1) Each child must be accompanied into the water by a parent.
2) Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to change and prepare for 7 p.m. entry into the water
3) 30 minute instructional lessons followed by 30 minutes of Parents working directly with their child to actualize the lesson.
4) Goggles are recommended
Cost is: $75 program fee for first child; $50 fee for second child.

Pool rules:
You must comply with ALL facility rules… Each person in the water must wear a bathing cap and you must bring a lock for your locker. Additional facility rules will be provided via the Flushing Meadows Aquatic Center’s website.
Annual Holiday arts and crafts
In this program, children meet monthly. It is project oriented, with children creating different projects. This is a great opportunity for teaching social interaction. The program will be held at our office at 95-16 Pitkin Avenue, Ozone Park, from 10 a.m.-12 noon. There are no sessions scheduled at this time, please check back for updates.

Ice Skating- NYFAC, in collaboration with the Flushing Meadow Ice Skating Rink Management, will soon be offering ice skating for our children. Details to follow in a separate mailing. 

Golf- Children will learn the art of putting, chipping and driving.. patience and fine motor skills are needed to be successful here!

 

Music lessons – this program will include piano or guitar lessons. Children will be offered an opportunity to play an instrument. Watch for details.

Judo – This program is a 6 month structured program which revolves around discipline and coordinational exercises. This program is great for teaching patience turn taking and social interaction.
