Recreational Programs
All NYFAC recreational programming except swimming are fully integrated community-based programs. Children with Autism are paired or play with their typically developing peers, and are supervised by parents and guided by professionals in that recreational area. All NYFAC recreational programs include full family participation. Parents, typically developing siblings, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews are welcome. Everyone is encouraged to participate in all aspects of our recreational programs. These programs are not designed to be respite. They require family participation.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE NYFAC DOES NOT RUN ALL THESE PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME. MOST ARE SEASONAL. PLEASE WATCH THE WEBSITE FOR DETAILS….. (You must be a member family to participate in any NYFAC programs)

Bowling
this program is offered in Queens at Cozy Bowl, shoes included. This program is great for teaching social interaction (Ends May 2010)  See you in September !

Tennis
This program is an 8-week program. Children learn basic fundamentals of tennis. It is offered Saturday mornings from 8:00am -9:00 am @ The United Stated Tennis Association in Flushing Meadows, Corona Park, Queens, NY.

Swimming

NYFAC is proud to announce a partnership with USA Pools and the Brand new Aquatic Center at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens.
On Friday Evenings beginning again in September 2009 and running for 12 weeks from 6:30 p.m. To 8 p.m. NYFAC will be Sponsoring a LEARN TO SWIM program. *** Registration is LIMITED****
This is probably one of the “most requested” programs and in response we have designed a program meant to meet the needs of our members!
NYFAC Basic rules for the program:
1) Each child must be accompanied into the water by a parent.
2) Arrive at 6: 30 p.m. to change and prepare for 7 p.m. entry into the water
3) 30 minute instructional lessons
4) followed by 30 minutes of Parents working directly with their child to actualize the lesson.
YOU MUST BE A MEMBER of NYFAC to participate in our Recreational programs. (for membership information visit www.nyfac.org) $50 program fee per child
Pool rules:
You must comply with ALL facility rules… Each person in the water must wear a bathing cap and you must bring a lock for your locker. Additional facility rules will be provided via our web site.
NEW !!!! FAMILY SWIM NIGHT…Come out with your family to join us in the pool! Friday nights from 8p.m. to 9 p.m. Immediately following swim instruction. THIS NEW PROGRAM IS FREE TO NYFAC MEMBER FAMILIES All your children are welcome!!
Judo
This program is a 6 month structured program which revolves around discipline and coordinational exercises. This program is great for teaching patience turn taking and social interaction.

As soon as we have enough interest, we will schedule. We need at least 10 children

Creative movement
This is a 6 week program. It revolves around social interaction and dance. It is free to NYFAC family members. This program is great for teaching social interaction. (Watch for Details) Please call the office, 718-641-3441 , to express interest in this program.

Little League
Children learn basic fundamentals of baseball. This is a 12-week program. All children are awarded trophies. This program is great for teaching social interaction. (Ends June 2010)
Soccer
In this program children learn basic fundamentals of soccer. This program runs from August thru mid October. It is free to NYFAC family members. This program is great for teaching social interaction.

Arts and crafts…..                                    Coming back September 2010!
At this program children meet monthly. It is project oriented. Children create different projects every month This program is great for teaching social interaction. Call the office for more details. 718-641-3441

Basketball
Place: Boys and Girls Club 111th Street and Atlantic Avenue Queens
$35 registration fee per family

Golf- Children will learn the art of putting, chipping and driving.. patience and fine motor skills are needed to be successful here!

Music lessons – this program will include piano or guitar lessons. Children will be offered an opportunity to play an instrument. Watch for details.
